Kieran McMullen
Bachelor’s degree in Irish History, St. John’s University, Queens, New York
Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Pepperdine University, Malibu, California
Kieran is a retired Lt Colonel with the US Army, having served for 22 years, and also holds two US patents for artillery bore sighting and reloading. In 2012, after retiring from law enforcement, he bought a small farm and moved to Townsend. He came to the city under former City Manager, Tim Sweezey, as the Building Inspector in 2017 and has since been the Director of Planning and Zoning and the Head of the Buildings and Code Enforcement departments for the city.
When Kieran’s not working for the City, you can find him working with his horses on the farm or writing books. He’s an accomplished author with of 9 Sherlock Holmes books published in London and 5 books published in Dublin, Ireland on the weapons of the Irish revolution. He’s been featured in several films out of Ireland and is considered an expert in his field there. He’s been frequently asked to lecture in Ireland and he and his wife, Christina, usually travel twice a year to Ireland, for lecturing, research and fun.
Darien operates under a Council-Manager form of government. Under the Charter of the City of Darien, the city manager is the chief executive and administrative officer of the city. The city manager is responsible to the mayor and city council for the administration of all city affairs placed in his charge by or under the charter.
